Dogging Dogging has become a popular term in today’s vocabulary partly due to the popularity of the Internet as a medium for organising such events. It also received massive exposure due to high profile dogging reports in the British media of soap stars caught in the act and more famously the former Nottingham Forest, Liverpool and England striker Stan Collymore who was frequenting Cannock Chase in Staffordshire (a well known dogging site).
Dogging is the practice of observing or performing sex acts in a public place outdoors. It is said to have begun in the 1970’s but there can be no accurate date placed on it nor can anyone say for certain where the term dogging comes from. Some possible explanations are that it refers to ‘dogging’ people as in ‘persistent pursuit’ or that the phrase ‘walking the dog’ was used as an excuse by people discovered observing. Another probability is that voyeurs hunt couples like a pack of dogs. A less credible and less believable explanation is that people are having sex outdoors like dogs. Whatever the true origin of the word dogging it has certainly come to mean observed and exhibitionistic al-fresco sex more than anything else. Its appeal is widespread and it is believed that the dogging phenomenon has spread globally to Canada, The USA, Australia, New Zealand, Germany and Spain. Dogging is forbidden fruit with an element of adventure. The thrill for the dogging couple is the opportunity of being discovered and the chance to become exhibitionists. The thrill for the doggers is the hunt for dogging couples and the voyeurism once discovered.
Aside from the usual health risks that come with any sexual contact with multiple partners there are other risks. Dogging couples or voyeurs run the risk of being discovered by unsavoury characters which could lead to mugging, robbery or blackmail or worse still, exposure in the gutter press. Discovery by the public can also bring about a visit by the police for anti-social behaviour although the law is a very grey area where dogging is concerned. Doggers have been reported for public indecency and breach of the peace even though having sex in a car is not illegal. Under the 2003 Sex Act sex in a car was illegal but this changed. Amendments lead to two previously understandable sections becoming unclear and thus making dogging such a grey area. Sections 66 and 67 dealt with Exposure and Voyeurism respectively but with the re-write to prevent having sex in a car being made illegal they try to encompass certain aspects of dogging without being specific leaving the law open to interpretation as opposed to being black and white. Section 66.1.a states that an offence is committed if a man ‘..intentionally exposes his genitals..’ and 66.1.b states ‘..he intends that someone will see them and be caused alarm and distress’. The grey area here is where a section namely section 66 is broken down into a sub section, 1 and then further into a and b where a simple sentence would suffice. Now section 66.1.a can be used for exhibitionist doggers, as a man must expose his genitals as part of the whole dogging ritual. A similar occurrence happens in section 67.1 whereby the sub section is again broken down further to leave the offence unclear. Is the offence observing another person doing a private act for the purpose of the observer’s sexual gratification or is this only an offence if the person being observed does not consent? (Confused???…so were we!!!) Avante Swingers recommends that should you want to go dogging you should research the dogging scene thoroughly and select a spot that is secluded and away from the general public. This can be a problem as doggers may not discover you but a list of dogging sites is easily obtained from our forums and locations are frequently discussed in our chat rooms. In the interests of safety when arranging a dogging session exercise caution when talking to people on the Internet. Try to arrange at least one familiar person to be there and inform someone of your whereabouts and when you will be back. Ensure that you have an alternative route out of the dogging location and take a different route home and make at least one u-turn to prevent being followed home. Be aware where the closest police station or telephone box is. Do not take valuables with you. Leave unnecessary jewellery, money and keys at home.
Dogging has no manual or hard and fast rules but requires a great deal of consideration, politeness and respect for others. If you are thinking of going Dogging bear in mind these few tips and hints:
If you are thinking of becoming a dogger bear these tips in mind:
Dogging is a risqué pursuit and each person should exercise caution. Part of the thrill of dogging is being out in the open with the danger of being caught. Make sure doggers and not the local constabulary or worse still, the local robbers catch you.
