Cuckold   

What is a cuckold? A Cuckold is a person who watches or listens to or is told of his partner’s indulgence in sexual acts with another person for the purpose of humiliating them.

Where does the term cuckold originate? The word cuckold itself is taken from the French word ‘Cuco’ which translated into English is the word for the bird the Cuckoo. The Cuckoo bird lays its solitary egg among the eggs of other birds and fools them into thinking that it is one of their own. The surrogate mother bird will warm the Cuckoo’s egg and hatch it. When the eggs hatch the cuckoo chick quickly outgrows the original chicks and demands more nurturing by the fooled mother until such time as it forcibly removes the other chicks from the nest by pushing them out over the side to fall to their death or to the mercy of predators. A woman who therefore fools her unwitting husband into providing for her whilst she is having sexual relations with other men whilst allowing her husband to provide for her illegitimate children is said to have made a ‘Cuckold’ out of her husband.

Who is a cuckold? The word cuckold applies to men alone as its origins date back to a time when women had very little rights and were seen as the property of their husband and were permitted to do as they pleased and take lovers without recourse. In recent times women have become rightfully equal to men but the word cuckold has remained solely applied to the male. The modern day usage of the word cuckold is applied to a couple where the female takes on lovers to the knowledge of her husband or partner while he remains monogamous or goes without sex totally. This situation is common in a female Dominant (Domme) and male subservient relationship. Alternatively the male may be the Dominant (Dom) in a relationship and command his partner to take lovers then describe this sexual liaison to the Dom after the fact and be punished in return.

Who else is involved in cuckoldry? The third party in the cuckoldry ménage a trios is the female’s lover. The lover of the wife or partner of a cuckold is referred to as the Bull. In certain relationships both the female and the bull may humiliate the cuckold in some cases by making the cuckold dress ridiculously or as a female or making him clean up the female with his tongue after sex with the bull. This is known as clean up a cream pie, the cream pie being a semen filled vagina. A typical cuckold will be made to either watch or listen to his wife and her Bull then ordered to perform certain duties once the Bull has left. This may be to cook for the wife or to make the bed once sex has finished. The cuckold far from protests and takes satisfaction from this orchestrated humiliation. Someone who is subjected to this humiliation against their wishes but has neither the morale courage nor psychological strength to change the situation is called a ‘Wittol’.

Is cuckoldry a well known? The whole ethos of cuckoldry is not new. It was mentioned in Chaucer’s Canterbury Tales – The Miller’s Tale. The story is of Nicholas the student who persuades Alison, his landlord’s wife, to sleep with him after duping the landlord with an elaborate tale of a vision from God and convinces him to spend a night in a bathtub suspended from the rafters of a barn. The arrival of Absolom another of Alison’s would be lovers sets in motion a chain of events that see the landlord cut himself down from the rafters breaking his arm in the process. The town folk find him in the tub yelling and Alison and Nicholas in the bedroom. From that moment on the landlord is thought of as a cuckold.

Is a cuckold a British practice? It is not only in the UK and USA that cuckoldry is known. In Latin countries cuckolds are described as ‘wearing horns’. The term originates from Romans who were victorious in battle and awarded with horns. The term is sarcastic and means brave in battle but weak in bed. The horned hand used by so many rock stars and victorious American sportsmen is an insult in Latin countries and signifies a cuckold. The Italian may shout ‘cornuto’ meaning horned while his Spanish counterpart may call the cuckold a ‘he-goat’ or cabrón. Beware of using this word as it is among the deepest insults in Spanish speaking countries.

Summary So to summarise, a cuckold is a man whose partner has sexual relations with others in his knowledge with the purpose of humiliating him. The cuckold himself accepts this as part of the couple’s sexual repertoire and sometimes remains totally celibate whilst the cuckoldry persists whether the end result is humiliation and reluctant acceptance of his partner’s dalliances or punishment to a subservient partner for the humiliation even though it is encouraged.
